Welcome to the web site of Taipan Eco-Expeditions. Our mission:

"...to provide outstanding wildlife and remote area experiences whilst also contributing meaningful scientific data to assist long-term management and conservation."

Australia is a large and ancient continent that - on a global scale - has a relatively small human population. Despite this, Australia’s biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate, evidenced by the fact that amongst other things, we have the highest rate of mammal extinction in the world. Coupled with this are an escalating series of related land management problems, most of which - if not all - are related to a history of unsustainable land use practices over the last 200+ years.

You might think that preserving biodiversity requires little more than creating a series of National Parks. Unfortunately, dedication of national parks per se is not enough in itself to secure biodiversity; such areas (and their inhabitants) need careful management, management needs to be informed by sound science and from this comes better conservation outcomes. This is where we (and possibly you) come into the picture.

Taipan Eco-Expeditions, or Taipan Tours as we like to call ourselves, operates under the wildlife/eco-tourism banner. However, we differ from most by offering you the opportunity to actually get down and dirty with some of this country’s iconic wildlife. How? By participating in bona fide research programs that have been specifically designed to assist management and conservation efforts. We do this by taking a project based approach to our expeditions, each one of which is part of a carefully designed, long-term research program. Our expedition leaders are qualified biologists with established interests and expertise in the area of research. Our goal, to give you the experience of a lifetime while also giving something tangible back to the environment and conservation.

Interested in participating? Check out the rest of our site as it develops to see what projects are currently underway, what’s likely to be on offer in the future and perhaps more importantly, how you might be able to get involved. If you are part of a group that has special conservation and/or natural history interests that is looking for a purpose built expedition, we will also be more than happy to work out a specialised itinerary for you and your colleagues. Just let us know what you would like to see and/or where you would like to go  and leave the rest to us.

We look forward to catching up with you sometime.
